TIGER HILL, SUZHOU

Why the name Tiger Hill?  The Emperor of Wu was buried at the hill. Reportedly, three days after the burial a white tiger came and crouched on the top of the hill as if he was guarding the tomb.

China has its own leaning tower, Tiger Hill Pagoda. The pagoda which stands on the hill's summit has been leaning since its completion in 961 A.D. The seven story, 158 feet high octahedron leans 359 feet to the northwest.

We had quite a steep climb to the top of the hill but it was worth the climb for the awesome views.

We arrived in time for the afternoon show at the outdoor stage. A troupe of young girls performed a beautiful butterfly dance. A cute magic show followed the dance.

Fortunately there was an alternate, less steep route down the mountain.
